The Roar Editor
Due to an internal promotion, we are looking for an exceptional person to step into the position of Editor of The Roar. Working out of Newcastle (at least for the first six months), you will drive the day’s content across the site, managing an established team of forty columnists, hundreds of fan writers, and a team of sub-editors. You will ensure that our coverage of all major sporting events with an Australian interest is both compelling and engaging for our readership.
This job is much bigger and more interesting than merely sports editing. You will be involved in growing our audience, working with our commercial team, estimating audience for campaigns, and implementing commercial campaigns.
Conversant use a variety of leading edge tools and we will expect you to embrace technology and bring to this role new and interesting approaches to building our audience and content. You will be digital first, sport second. We expect you will have a broad and deep understanding of digital media in all its forms.
The days will be busy so this role suits someone who is process driven and efficient, capable of multi-tasking and with a good understanding of the major sports in Australia. Experience in digital publishing is essential, though we are open to outstanding people without any direct editing exposure so long as you live and breathe digital.
Video is a growing focus for our business, so if you’re familiar with the trends and tool that will be helpful.
